After months of work and planning, this election cycle did not go as we had hoped. Sadly, many of the candidates Wisconsinites chose do not value marriage, family, life, and religious liberty. In the face of these disappointments, our natural tendency is to despair, but Christ’s resurrection points to our everlasting hope and greatest mission.

While we labor to promote God-honoring values in our state government, we must always remember that our hope does not rest in manmade government. We serve a great God who accomplishes His purposes no matter the political backdrop. Consider the political state in which Christ lived His earthly life. The Roman empire was corrupt, depraved, and immoral—and no friend to God’s people, the Jews. On the other hand, the Jews too were corrupt and had little desire to genuinely know and serve God. In this hostile landscape, Christ fulfilled His earthly ministry.

In human eyes, Christ’s earthly life ended in utter failure. No doubt His disciples were confused and prone to despair. But this seeming failure laid the groundwork for the greatest comeback of human history, the hope that still ignites us today. Christ’s resurrection shatters darkness and despair. No evil power could thwart His purposes. No stone could lock His tomb. The wicked attempts against Him had no strength to hold back His perfect plan.

As we reflect on Christ’s resurrection, we are reminded that His power is just as great today. The God who rose from the dead still rules the world. Our election results surprise Him no more than Christ’s death did, and we can be confident that He will accomplish His plan in spite of every attempt against Him. Godless leaders and woke ideologies today have no more power over His plan than Romans and Pharisees did 2,000 years ago.

And so, while we fight unabatedly to promote God-honoring candidates and legislation in our state, Easter reminds us that our greatest mission is not to elect a certain candidate or pass a certain bill. Our hope is in Christ, and the greatest impact we can make is not in governmental changes but in introducing others to the saving power of Jesus Christ.

Our hope is in Christ, and the greatest impact we can make is not in governmental changes but in introducing others to the saving power of Jesus Christ.

Christ’s resurrection conquers the power of death and gives us the opportunity to place our faith in Him. Our greatest mission is to share the hope of Christ.

This Easter—and every day moving forward—we can take great hope in our living Savior, Jesus Christ. He is the Overcomer of Darkness, the Sovereign Ruler of the World, and the Transformer of Hearts and Lives.

And He is risen indeed!

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.” – 1 Peter 1:3
