On Tuesday, April 7, Wisconsinites will cast their votes for Supreme Court Justice. As always, this election will have far-reaching consequences in our state.
In 2023, liberals gained the majority in the Wisconsin Supreme Court with the election of Justice Janet Protasiewicz. Then, last year, liberals maintained their majority with the election of Justice Susan Crawford. This spring, liberals are looking to further entrench their majority on the Supreme Court.
Two candidates have emerged for this seat: Chris Taylor (who has proclaimed herself as a liberal) and Maria Lazar (who has proclaimed herself as an independent jurist).
Chris Taylor presents herself as the people’s candidate. But it doesn’t take much effort to see the radical agenda beneath her smooth words. Taylor has spent the last two decades pushing her radical anti-life and anti-family agenda. Her background and track record clearly reveal the type of judge she will be if elected.
Abortion Advocate
For 8 years, Taylor worked relentlessly to expand access to abortion in her position as the lobbyist for Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin. This position placed her as one of the most prominent pro-abortion voices in the state. Taylor boasted, “As the lead advocate in the State Capitol for Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin, I have helped pass more pro-active reproductive rights legislation in the last four years than in the entire history of the Wisconsin legislature.” Of course, by “pro-active reproductive rights legislation” she means policies that destroy life in the womb instead of seeking to find real, compassionate solutions for moms in need.
After her time at Planned Parenthood, Taylor served as a Democrat State Representative in the Wisconsin Assembly. During her time in the legislature, Taylor again displayed her radical, anti-life beliefs. She authored a bill to legalize abortion through all nine months. In addition, she made multiple attempts to create a constitutional right to abortion in Wisconsin.
Despite her claims that she cares about the people of Wisconsin, Taylor proudly promotes policies that seek to destroy Wisconsin’s most vulnerable, the unborn.
Champion of Radical Agendas
Chris Taylor is well known as one of the most progressive, liberal Democrats in the state. For example, she led bills to legalize marijuana, legalize same-sex marriage, ban Styrofoam packaging, and eliminate the requirement that state parks be open to hunting, fishing, and trapping.
She also authored a bill that could have potentially shielded doctors providing gender transition procedures to minors from liability.
Equally alarming, Taylor is anti-school choice. In response to the school voucher program, she said, “It’s the wrong way to go. It doesn’t help our kids.”
Beyond these policy issues, Taylor has such disrespect for the Wisconsin Constitution that she authored a constitutional amendment that would have added OVER 20 NEW SECTIONS to the constitution. Naturally, the amendment granted nearly every liberal wish list item you could imagine.
Each of these positions demonstrates her commitment to anti-family policies that harm Wisconsinites.
Far From Neutral
While Taylor paints herself as a neutral candidate with the needs of the Wisconsin people in mind, her background clearly reveals her partisan bent. In fact, during her time in the legislature, she co-chaired the Assembly Democratic Campaign Committee, which recruits candidates and raises money for the Democrat Party.
We can certainly trust that her fidelity to the Democrat Party hasn’t disappeared overnight especially since the Democratic Party of Wisconsin is her #1 funder.
In addition, Taylor’s campaign messaging and critiques of others reinforce the sense that she sees judges as policy actors, not neutral arbiters. If elected, Taylor will legislate from the bench, using her position to push her left-wing political agenda instead of upholding the law of the land.
