BACK TO SCHOOL RESOURCES

“Over the years and after much study, researchers have pretty much agreed there are nine characteristics of strong families: caring and appreciation, time together, encouragement, commitment, communication, coping with change, spirituality, community and family ties and clear roles.  With another school year about to begin, now is a good time to assess together as a family how you are doing on each characteristic and develop a plan and a timeline to improve the weaker areas.

Strong families don’t just happen. They require prayer, planning and dedication, which means intentional carrying out of the plan. Taking time to assess family strengths is a good idea. Involve everyone, in an age-appropriate way, in this exercise. You might be surprised and enlightened by their assessment and their ideas for improvement.”  —Julaine Appling, WFC president
