17 Attorneys General Take a Stand to Protect Youth

Earlier this week the UW School of Medicine and Public Health was named as the inaugural site for the national LGBTQ+ health care fellowship program. According to Dr. Elizabeth Petty, senior associate dean for academic affairs at the UW School of Medicine and Public Health, the ultimate goal of the program is to ensure that all LGBTQ+ patients receive the highest standards of care. While this is, in many ways, discouraging and heart-wrenching news, there is real tangible hope that not all elected officials agree with the rapid expansion of LGBTQ+ initiatives.

Michael Faust, writing for Christian Headlines reported last week that, “A coalition of 17 state attorneys general is defending a new Arkansas law that prohibits gender transition procedures for children, saying in a court filing this week it is the job of states to protect children from a medical community that has ‘abandoned’ its responsibility to politics.”

Julaine Appling applauded these Attorneys General for stewarding their position as elected officials well, “Bravo to these seventeen Attorneys General for stepping up to protect minors. This is a great example of the power of an elected office. Courts pay attention when a coalition of attorneys general speaks. Wisconsin is not part of this coalition because our attorney general has bought heavily into the LGBTQ plus agenda, reminding us elections matter.”

So what do we do now? Three things; first, we intentionally teach our children how God created us as biological men and women and calls both very good. If you’re struggling to find the right words to help your child navigate transgender issues The Parent Resource Guide was written with you in mind! It is a carefully researched resource providing parents with practical ways to address the transgender issue with their children. Secondly, we look forward to the next election and deliberately cast votes for those who will fight for the values we hold dear! And third, faithfully pray for families and for elected officials.

Rep. Ramthun (R) Calls for “a more comprehensive audit” of the 2020 Election

Republican State Representative Timothy Ramthun recently formally requested “a more comprehensive audit” from former state Supreme Court Justice Michael Gableman, who at the request of Assembly Speaker Robin Vos, is leading a review of the 2020 election along with retired police officers, and the Legislative Audit Bureau, which lawmakers authorized earlier this year to investigate the election. Ramthun is pushing for the forensic audit after reviewing recently released information from two counties, one in Arizona and the other in Georgia.

Julaine Appling commented, “Representative Ramthun is asking for a full forensic audit, including inspecting paper mail-in ballots in the Fifth Congressional District, reviewing the digital files of ballots to make sure no double-scanning occurred, and thoroughly examining cybersecurity aspects of election equipment  election integrity.”

What’s Wrong with Equality?

Over the last few months, there has been a lot of talk about protecting women’s sports, but a major federal-level bill that has sparked some of these conversations is far further reaching than sports. The bill is misleadingly called The Equality Act. If enacted The Equality Act will not only allow biological men who identify as women to compete in women’s sports, but it will also impact parental rights and religious freedom — parents will be denied the right to approve or disapprove of sex-change medications and procedures for their children, men will be allowed to use women’s restrooms, adoption agencies will not be allowed to decline same-sex couples adoption for religious reasons, and much, much more.

Julaine Appling concisely summarized the impacts of this bill in her podcast episode titled What’s Wrong with Equality: “Simply put, the Equality Act isn’t about equality at all. It’s about pushing a leftist, liberal progressive agenda on everyone and forcing us all to bow the knee to sexual perversion while our constitutionally protected religious freedom is trampled in the rush to normalize deviancy that, in the name of equality, ultimately hurts people and all of society.”

She goes on to explain, “Essentially every area of our culture and lives would be, in some way, touched by this draconian law. [Furthermore], the law is written with no religious exemptions, and experts tell us the Religious Freedom Restoration Act won’t provide any protection either.”

Words have meanings, but today words often have new meanings and in the case of the horribly misnamed Equality Act, equality means something entirely different for those pushing this game-changing, freedom-robbing bill. What could possibly be wrong with a bill that is all about equality? Turns out, a whole lot can be wrong—very wrong, indeed.

How Allowing Sports Betting in the Oneida’s Casino Hurts Families

Earlier this month Governor Tony Evers and the Oneida tribal officials signed an agreement authorizing for the first time in our state, betting on professional sporting events. The sports gambling would be available at the tribe’s casino in Green Bay, but the agreement also allows for digital sports bets by a person who is physically present on tribal land who can from that location place a bet transaction via a cell phone or computer.

Much too often gambling is not a harmless form of entertainment. One group that will be especially vulnerable to this current expansion of gambling is college students. (Technically, the legal age for casino gambling is 21.) Research shows that this group tends to have higher rates of problem gambling than the general population.

This is important because for many people, gambling is a zero-sum game, as they are sucked into financial ruin and more by the siren song of lady luck. Financial ruin and the addiction lead to the destruction of marriages and families, crimes to feed the gambling habit, additional addictions, and too often suicide.

Our state legislature has not dealt with any bill regarding legalizing sports betting (a US Supreme Court decision now allows states to make that decision), but our law allows the governor to enter into casino gaming compacts with the tribes without any legislative oversight whatsoever. In an ill-conceived effort to boost the Wisconsin economy, Evers has side-stepped the state legislature and put families and especially our youth in jeopardy.

The next time we elect a governor is November 2022.
