How New Census Data Impacts Wisconsin’s Electoral College Votes

With some of the census data released this past Monday, Wisconsin learned that it neither gains nor loses a congressional seat, which means the state retains its ten electoral votes. Electoral votes are determined by the number of congressional districts—for Wisconsin that has been eight since 2000—added to the two US senators every state has. Two other midwestern states, Illinois and Michigan, each lost a congressional seat, which could impact to some degree the importance of this part of the nation during a presidential election.

Julaine Appling’s response to this news was positive, “I’m pleased we didn’t lose a congressional seat. That helps keep us relevant in presidential elections—as long as progressives aren’t successful in gutting the electoral college. The big push right now is to have a state’s electoral votes go to the presidential candidate who wins the national popular vote, rather than to the candidate who wins a given state’s popular vote. Essentially this destroys the Electoral College and the importance of every state in a presidential election.”

There’s Nothing Wrong With Abortion DE-BUNKED

Have you ever wished you had intelligent, factual, grace-filled explanations and responses when a conversation about abortion came up?

Then WATCH THIS VIDEO. It’s short, relevant and entertaining. Our friends at DeBunked Ministries are committed to producing respectful, truth-filled content addressing difficult subjects and hot topics. They describe their approach like this:

“[We] don’t pull any punches or skirt the big issues because we believe this was often the approach of Jesus. He never manipulated. He just told the truth. With that said, it is our prayer and hope that [this video] reaches millions of people, saves lives, changes minds, moves people closer to God, and gives the viewer a better understanding of what it means to be human — made in the image of God.”

When you’re finished watching you will have a better understanding of and ability to communicate why abortion is wrong. And we hope you’ll share the video!

Two Important Bills Governor Evers’ Vetoed

Late last Friday, Governor Evers vetoed two bills dealing with constitutionally-protected conscience rights and religious freedom. One bill (Assembly Bill 23) would have prohibited state and local governments from mandating any vaccine-related to COVID or any COVID variants. The other bill (Assembly Bill 24) would have prohibited local health officials from closing places of worship during COVID or any variant. The Governor said he vetoed both bills because they “would take away existing tools” for state and local health officials to use during a declared public emergency.

Julaine Appling commented that she was pleased with the legislature’s effort to protect the rule of law and disappointed in the governor’s dismissal: “With these vetoes, Governor Evers has shown he believes it is fine to set aside the US and state constitutions during a declared emergency. Fundamentally this is really all about the rule of law. The legislature has done its part to protect the rule of law, and the governor has taken a pass on that. Now Governor Evers is directly accountable to the people for his actions.”

FYI – the next time we elect a governor is November 2022. We’re just sayin’!

Six Mother’s Day Gift Ideas

Mother’s Day can feel like just another thing that needs to be celebrated, but celebrating mothers — parents, in general, really — is important. Moms have in many ways laid down their lives for us. Mother’s Day and Father’s Day are beautiful opportunities for us to intentionally acknowledge the investment they have made into our lives. In case Mother’s Day is sneaking up on you this year, here are a few gift ideas to help you celebrate and honor well the mothers in your life:

1. Quality Time. This could look like taking your mom to your favorite coffee shop or grabbing dinner together. If your mom likes to stay home, consider picking up sushi (or whatever her favorite is!) from the grocery store. You don’t have to leave the house to have quality time together.

2. Personalized Mug. If your mom is a coffee or tea drinker this gift is sure to make her smile regularly.

3. A good book. With this gift, you’re not only giving your mom an excuse to relax, but you’re also giving her delightful entertainment. Here’s a book we’ve enjoyed, set during the Civil War era and full of Biblical truth.

4. Affirmation. Write a note telling your mom what you appreciate most about her. This gift doesn’t cost anything but could be one of the most meaningful gifts your mom receives.

5. Phone call. If you don’t live close to your mom, intentionally calling and setting aside time to hear about your mom’s life can go a long way!

6. In-honor or in-memory donation. If you have a wife or mother who has passed — or a mother who doesn’t want any more things — you can give a financial gift in memory or in honor of her. At Wisconsin Family Action it is our mission to defend God’s plan for marriage, family, life and religious freedom. You can support what we do in honor of your loved one HERE.
