According to the Wisconsin Family Prosperity Report released yesterday, a major factor holding Wisconsin back from moving into the top 10 ranked states is our low marriage rate, which is one of the 57 datasets evaluated for the Family Prosperity Index. Marriage rate is part of the Family Structure category authors American Conservative Union economists Dr. Wendy Warcholik and J. Scott Moody use in their analysis.
The Wisconsin report is available online HERE.
A state’s marriage rate is very telling. Wisconsin’s marriage rate has dropped nearly 40% since 1980. Research continues to show marriage is good for the man, woman and children in a marriage and also very good for society as a whole. For instance, it’s by far the best antidote to poverty. For the sake of all Wisconsin citizens, we need to begin reversing this negative trend.
