Today scores of pro-life Wisconsin citizens, in bitterly cold temperatures, gathered at the state capitol in Madison for a brief outside rally for life. The Rally for Life was sponsored by the state’s 3 leading pro-life groups, Wisconsin Family Action, Pro-Life Wisconsin and Wisconsin Right to Life. Speakers included leaders from these organizations as well as the legislators who authored pro-life bills that are pending in the state legislature. After the outside rally, those attending went inside to visit their legislators and urge them to support these bills.
Julaine Appling, president of Wisconsin Family Action, said, “We are so grateful for those brave folks who joined us! The opportunity to pass these bills ends no later than the middle of March. Now is the time for the legislators to know the people of this state want these bills to pass. The bills stop millions of taxpayer dollars from going to Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin.”

Press release from Wisconsin Family Action:
Madison – Starting yesterday on WTMJ in Milwaukee and also airing this week in the greater Green Bay area, Wisconsin Family Action is sponsoring television commercials urging Assembly Speaker Robin Vos (R-Rochester) to put Assembly Bill 305 (AB 305) on the floor for a vote. The bill bans the sale and use of the body parts of aborted babies. The television ad shows a preborn baby alive and active in his mother’s womb but who is very much at risk for being aborted and then having his body parts harvested and sold.

A pair of Milwaukee television stations have told two pro-life organizations they can’t buy airtime during select news programming because the advertisement they want to air is not approved by station management. Fox6 and WISN have both declined to air an advertisement sponsored by Wisconsin Family Action and Pro-Life Wisconsin even though the ad is very similar to other political and issue ads run by other organizations. The topic of the ad is AB 305, a measure that seeks to stop aborted fetal body parts from being used in scientific and medical research in Wisconsin.

Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila (KGB) says it’s time for Wisconsin to respect human life & the taxpayers
Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila (KGB) with family
Madison, WI – Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila, known to millions of Packers fans as KGB, has something he wants Wisconsin citizens to hear: “When it comes to football, I’ve been known to put pressure on the quarterback. Pressure didn’t always get sacks, but it made opponents move. It messed up their plays. It caused havoc for their game plan. Pressure changes the game! So Wisconsin citizens—it’s time to put pressure on our elected officials and get some critical pro-life bills passed. We need our legislators to move now and put the bills on the floor and take the votes.”
KGB is referring to two bills that have been bogged down in the State Assembly. Assembly Bill 305 would ban the sale, use and/or experimentation using the body parts or tissue of aborted babies. Assembly Bill 311 would prohibit family-planning organizations, including Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin, from overbilling the state for drugs purchased through a Medicaid drug program.
“I called my representative, Majority Leader Jim Steineke. I’ve worked with Jim during elections and other times because he’s said he’s pro-life. I was shocked to hear him tell me they didn’t have the 50 votes needed to pass Assembly Bill 305 and that the author had to assure him of 50 votes before the bill would be put on the floor. I got the sense that no one in Assembly leadership was willing to help get the votes. I called another representative in leadership too; he wasn’t interested either in stopping the trafficking of human baby body parts in our state. I’m stunned that at least 13 Republicans in the Assembly are apparently not as pro-life as I thought they were.” commented KGB.

Today Senator Steve Nass (R-Whitewater), cosponsor of AB 305 and companion SB 260 (bans the sale/use of baby body parts and tissue for research), issued the following statement on the announcement by Speaker Robin Vos that he would not schedule AB 305 for a floor vote:
Not one more step backward. The time has come for the Legislature to establish a state legal standard on the sale and use of aborted baby body parts. Assembly Bill 305 has already been amended in a fair and compassionate manner. I commend the authors, Representative Jacque and Senator Stroebel, for their passionate stand to advance these fundamental human principles.
There are researchers and doctors who have come forward to support the establishment of a morally justified legal standard. These same researchers and doctors have made clear that other techniques exist which would allow for the continued advancement of medical science in a truly ethical manner.
Earlier this year, we heard the same political excuses about repeal of prevailing wage and saw attempts to block a vote. That repeal is now law because rank-in-file legislators fought for the public over the demands of powerful special interests.
I call on the leadership of both houses to schedule a vote on AB 305, as amended in the Assembly Committee. Let each member represent their constituents by casting a vote on ending the trafficking of aborted baby body parts for research.

On Tuesday, 9/22, the Senate Committee on Human Health and Service held a public hearing on Senate Bill 260 (companion AB 305 – bans the sale and use of the body parts and tissues of aborted babies) Senate Bill 237 (companion AB 310 – redirects about $7.5 million annually of taxpayer money away from Planned Parenthood of WI), and Senate Bill 238 (companion AB 311 – bans family-planning centers from overbilling the state for drugs they dispense). WFA attended the hearing and testified in favor of the bills along former Iowa Planned Parenthood manager Sue Thayer and Alliance Defending Freedom Attorney Natalie Decker who specializes in exposing Planned Parenthood’s fraud and abuse. From The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:
Unprecedented attention has been given to Assembly Bill 305 in the Wisconsin Legislature, which would restrict the use of abortion-derived fetal tissue for research. Opponents of the bill, including those in biomedical research, have openly shared arguments against such restrictions.
However, we, who are also scientists and doctors, do not share this view. We do not agree that research using human fetal or embryonic tissue from abortions or procedures such as IVF is ethical or a requisite approach for advancing scientific inquiry or preventing suffering.
The argument that fetal-derived tissues must be used in research to develop medical treatments is false. Many therapies have been developed using cell lines not of fetal origin, including insulin for diabetes (produced in bacteria), Herceptin for breast cancer and tissue plasminogen activator for heart attack, stroke and pulmonary embolism (both developed in Chinese hamster ovary cells).

On Wednesday, 9/9, the Assembly Health Committee voted to pass Assembly Bill 305, a bill that prohibits the use and sale of baby body parts and provides a criminal penalty. Rep. Joel Kleefisch (R-Oconomowoc) chaired the hearing.
Rep. John Spiros (R-Marshfield) and Rep. Todd Novak (R-Dodgeville) voted with committee Democrats against the bill.
“We are very pleased that this critical bill passed in the committee., states Julaine Appling, WFA president, “Representative Joel Kleefisch, who is also a co-author of the bill, did an excellent job in the chair. Like Rep. Kleefisch we are a bit surprised that 2 Republican legislators who claim they are pro-life did not fully support this proposal. We look forward to having this bill, without amendments that seriously compromise it, on the Assembly floor in the very near future.
The University of Wisconsin-Madison is ramping up to bully the state legislature into not passing the ban on the sale or use of the body parts of aborted babies. Read about it HERE.
We need pro-life citizens and pastors to call their legislators in support of this bill–AB 305. View the bill HERE.
