Back to School Resources for Parents

BACK TO SCHOOL RESOURCES

“Over the years and after much study, researchers have pretty much agreed there are nine characteristics of strong families: caring and appreciation, time together, encouragement, commitment, communication, coping with change, spirituality, community and family ties and clear roles.  With another school year about to begin, now is a good time to assess together as a family how you are doing on each characteristic and develop a plan and a timeline to improve the weaker areas.

Strong families don’t just happen. They require prayer, planning and dedication, which means intentional carrying out of the plan. Taking time to assess family strengths is a good idea. Involve everyone, in an age-appropriate way, in this exercise. You might be surprised and enlightened by their assessment and their ideas for improvement.”  —Julaine Appling, WFC president

RESOURCES:

Bring Your Bible (Focus on the Family) – Thursday, October 6, is Bring Your Bible to School Day. On this day thousands of students across the whole country will share God’s hope and celebrate religious freedom by doing something simple, yet powerful: They’ll bring their Bibles to school and talk about it with friends!

Fellowship of Christian Athletes – An interdenominational Christian sports ministry to see the world impacted for Jesus Christ through the influence of coaches and athletes.

Gateways to Better Education – A nonprofit organization as defined in section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.  Gateways was founded in 1991 to help public schools teach about the important contribution the Bible and Christianity make to the world. See You at the Pole: SEE YOU AT THE POLE day is on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at 7:00 a.m. local time. All around the globe, in every time zone, students will be gathering at their flagpoles, praying for their school, friends, families, churches, and communities. SEE YOU AT THE POLE is a day committed to global unity in Christ and prayer for your generation.

Students’ and Parents’ Rights (Alliance Defending Freedom or ADF) – Your children face an increasing level of censorship and punishment for their Christian values that you’ve worked so hard to instill. But students have more freedom to express their faith than you may realize. When a school tries to silence your child’s expression of faith, ADF is here to help.

True Tolerance (Focus on the Family) – Concerned about controversial sexual topics being brought up in your child’s school? TrueTolerance.org helps you respond in a loving and fact-based way.
